Refugee Garden Planting
This beaming summer day was reserved for a tree planting event hosted by non-profit organizations Forterra and the International Rescue Committee who are both committed to developing community gardens in South Seattle that are open for anyone to use, especially local refugee families. I've had the honor of photographing this garden in Kent throughout the process; documenting and admiring a diverse group coming together to build, plant and create community in unison with nature. The first image, two hands from different cultures move a young plant from one plot of the garden to the other, they gently carried this young plant together down the garden path and into the soil.
